little ditty with post 27

I was super honored and excited to be asked to work with Post 27 on a holiday mantel design for Chicago Home and Garden! These are a few behind the scenes shots.
Pick up a copy of Chicago Home and Garden to see more!

indian summer

The weather has been funny this week. It feels more like Spring into Summer rather then Fall in to Winter... but I think all of us Chicago kidz prefer it this way, for just a little longer.
Maybe that is why I went with pinks and oranges this week. Holding on to this indian summer and bracing for the cold to come. I love how the breeze has frozen these stems into a permanent gust, creating a natural movement.
Lot's of change will be coming soon to our lives. Work changes and more. This winter will be scary, but exciting. A friend told me the other day, in order to succeed at business and life and get what you want out of it, you MUST take risks. I am sure we all know this, but it is always reassuring when someone tells you this to your face. So, I am preparing to risk it and Seth and I will see where our feet land.

the wild at heart

Introducing The Wild at Heart

I have been thinking of doing this series of photo's for awhile. Thinking locally and of the moment, I wanted to start making arrangements with the foliage and flowers of certain locations. Gathering, arranging and photographing all in the space where the subjects came from.
This is the first of the series.

Seth and I spend many summer weekends up at his lake house on Lake Geneva. While the space is beautiful in the summer, just this past weekend I experienced the fall up there. The colors, weather and calmness were almost to much. So perfect and serene. We went on a walk and gathered branches, flowers, weeds, sticks, pods and whatever else inspired us. It was rainy and windy making it slightly difficult to arrange and photograph, but I think the final result turned out pretty well for the first image of this series.
I am super excited to make the next one. There is something thrilling about jumping out of a car or going on a walk, finding beautiful shapes and colors and arranging them in their own wild.

autumn red

A little Autumn red and green for you.
It is a rainy day today. Seth and I almost found ourselves stuck in the middle of a scary tornado storm on the highway home from his parents. We spent the weekend celebrating his cousin's new marriage and the beauty of Lake Geneva in the fall. I will have a post about that later.  We are now looking at our photos from the past week and enjoying homemade popcorn, beef jerky and a really bad horror movie. Couldn't be happier.

Huxley was my little helper with these arrangements. All he has to do is stand there.
Happy Monday!

laura + kevin

My dear friends Laura and Kevin got engaged a few months ago and a group of us girls had an engagement party for them. This was an arrangement that I made for the party. I really loved the dark picture of the arrangement, even though it doesn't really go with the rest of the images. So what, right?

Seth and I just went down to St. Louis with the happy couple, to go see Louis C. K. at the Fox Theatre. It was a really great trip topped off with eating an amazing dinner at Herbies next to Wayne Gretzky!
We are big hockey fans.

We have some things in the works that are really exciting. Can't wait to tell you about them.
It is a beautiful fall week so far in Chicago. I can't believe it is fall already.

cwhc gala

Foxglove was honored to be asked to create arrangements for the Chicago Women's Health Center gala the other week held at the Greenhouse Loft. If you don't know about this great organization, I highly recommend you click on their name.

In other news we are starting work on a new and improved logo that we hope to start using soon and getting a real deal website. I am learning about all the baby steps one takes when starting their own company from scratch. It is exciting and inspiring everyday and I look forward to continuing the steps to make Foxglove a success.

This weekend was so much fun with engagement parties, shows and Design Harvest. I think I might try to do some relaxing today!
