The Year is 2016

Winter has finally arrived. I won't say I missed it in December, but it's nice to have it for a bit. Though come March or even mid February I am sure I will be ready to see it go.

Over our break we thought a lot about where we want Foxglove to go. How we want to bring flowers to you and our community and what that looks like in our personal lives. Running a business is much like a puzzle. No two businesses are the same and some how you have to figure out how the pieces fit together for your own business. It's both a rewarding exercise and a scary one.

This year our word is SIMPLIFY. I find myself saying this over and over and have decided that is the word of 2016 for us. We have spent to much time trying to keep up that we have been spreading ourselves so thin that we end up working 7 days a week at all hours and that just is no way to live, or raise a kid.

I reflected on why I got in the business in the first place (thank you Design Sponge circa 2009) . Flowers were inspiring and this amazing medium that I had never really thought about. Last year we were so busy with day to day that I forgot how much I truly love flowers and bringing them to people.

So, we are focusing only on our events this year, cutting out the things that don't make sense with our business model.  I plan on upping my game with stones, rocks and crystals just for shits and giggles, as my side gig. A stone wrangler if you will. We are going to hone in on our design services both with flowers and tablescapes, continuing to do full event florals but also offering tablescape and event design services so that we can achieve a more cohesive look to the events we do.

I am also working with my friends Christine and Lindsey at Avium Flowers to bring city grown flowers to Chicago florists and csa's near you. More on that in a bit, but I am so excited to experiment with bearded iris, narcissus, frittalaria, tulips, dahlias and more.

These are some images from some shoots we worked on at the end of the year. Two of the shoots were for CB2 : one for cheese (mm cheese) and one for a centerpiece idea. And one for a birthday lunch in the studio. Stay tuned for some Valentine's Day info and as always, thanks for supporting Foxglove.

please can I put this on my walls?

The site of this wallpaper makes me weak in the knees.
When I get walls that I can do something more permanent to,  I am going to use this at least for once. Would it be to crazy to use all over? Ok, it might be but I can't get enough of it. It is perfect harmony between vintage +modern, color + pattern and I want it now!

So, who is going to give me a wall that I can put this up on?

Anyone? Anyone?

I guess I will have to wait patiently.

cwhc gala

Foxglove was honored to be asked to create arrangements for the Chicago Women's Health Center gala the other week held at the Greenhouse Loft. If you don't know about this great organization, I highly recommend you click on their name.

In other news we are starting work on a new and improved logo that we hope to start using soon and getting a real deal website. I am learning about all the baby steps one takes when starting their own company from scratch. It is exciting and inspiring everyday and I look forward to continuing the steps to make Foxglove a success.

This weekend was so much fun with engagement parties, shows and Design Harvest. I think I might try to do some relaxing today!

dark romance

all photo's by Julia Stotz

I am currently working on this amazing photo series with Sara Jean Stevens and Julia Stotz. I was approached by Sara to make some floral head pieces different from a crown or wreath style. Our first model, Stacey, had the perfect color hair for a lavender and cream color palette. I love the way they turned out. Especially love Sara's tattoo's in the last photo! We have 2 more ladies to style and shoot. Looking forward to it!

Last weekend we were super excited to create arrangements for Liz and Jeremy's wedding. Everything looked so beautiful and perfect. Turned out to be a magical night.

pink heart

Happy Friday, friends! Hope you all had a great week. Foxglove has been busy this week with weddings, special photo shoots and weekly deliveries. I am really looking forward to getting into fall colors, but I just couldn't resist the pink this week. Have a great weekend, diamonds.

a trip down dinner party lane

We created these arrangements in the beginning of the year but I just love them paired with this plate on the homepage of Dinner Party. Thanks ladies and you all should really check them out for any dinner party needs.  AMAZING !

black|white vs.color

Detail

Full

I was working on a photo shoot last night and my friend Julia gave me some great tips on taking photo's of my flowers. I have to get the cf card for the camera, so instead for one more day, I am using my iPhone. Today I went black and white. I kind of dig it. I wouldn't normally do this, because I think color is important when you present an arrangement. But boy o boy, I really think it worked out here. You can see all of the different textures of the arrangement and the richness. I also like how it looks like a painting. Hooray!

the dark horse

This past weekend was Labor Day. The end of summer. I felt a little melancholy about the whole thing. I was really thinking about Foxglove and how we have grown and how much farther I want to grow. Day dreaming about projects, gardens, travel and beauty.
It is hard sometimes for me to take a deep breath and remember that all things grow with time, I just want it now so bad.

This week we are working on a special project with Sara Jean and Julia Stotz. Really looking forward to it.

mr. post man

Hey Mr. Post Man. He is Post 27's Patriarch, well, kind of. Angela found him while out shopping years ago and we now hang him proudly in the backroom. He looks real nice against our black wall! This is a shot of one of Foxglove's weekly arrangements. Hope you all have a wonderful Friday. xo
